VIEW LATEST UPDATE ON SUMMER EBT AND CHILD CARE P-EBT IN OUR AUGUST 2, 2021 BLOG POST.
Updated May 14, 2021
We are excited to announce that Kentucky has received final federal approval and the Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefit has been extended for October 2020-June 2021. This round of benefits will be administered differently than previous rounds, so please read the following information from the state carefully.
View the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ FAQ document (y para Español aquí) and see infographics with more details below.
Who is eligible?
For the months of October 2020 through June 2021, to be eligible, students must be enrolled in a public or private Kentucky school using a virtual or hybrid learning model and meet one of the following requirements:
- Students who are current SNAP recipients
- Students who attend a Community Eligibility Program (CEP) school
- Students who receive free or reduced lunch at school
- Students attending a Head Start program that is on a virtual or hybrid learning model and that participates in the National School Lunch Program
Students who are learning in-person full time are not eligible for this benefit. If you are eligible to receive P-EBT benefits but wish to opt out, please call (855) 306-8959.
How much will the benefit amount be?
For this round, each school district will determine the primary learning style for each month based on the majority of students in the district. School districts may indicate that they are fully remote learning or engaging in a hybrid model with some in-person learning and some remote learning.
- For each month that a school district is determined to be fully remote, the P-EBT benefit amount will be $136.40 per student.
- For each month that a school district is determined to be on a hybrid model, the benefit amount will be $81.84 per student.
Families that are in a hybrid district but their child’s individual learning model differs from the district’s model can submit a claim for reconsideration to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services by calling (855) 306-8959. You will need to have the student’s full name, date of birth, and State Student ID (SSID) number when you call.
How will benefits be distributed?
- Any eligible student who is a current SNAP recipient will have their benefits loaded directly on their SNAP card on the designated P-EBT day each month (see information below).
Any eligible student that is not a current SNAP recipient will receive their benefits on the P-EBT card that was used in the previous round (see image).
- If you no longer have your P-EBT card or it is damaged, you can request a new card by calling (888) 979-9949 and it will be mailed within two weeks.
- If your address has changed and you need a new P-EBT card, you can call (855) 306-8959 to update your address and have a new card mailed to you.
When will I receive my benefits?
Benefits for October 2020 will be issued on SNAP and P-EBT cards by the end of March 2021.
Following the October benefit distribution, benefits for November 2020-February 2021 will be spread out and loaded on SNAP and P-EBT cards each week following.
March-May 2021 benefits will be issued as follows:
- March benefits will be issued on April 25th
- April benefits will be issued on May 12th
- May benefits will be issued on June 9th
Note: The regular monthly P-EBT issuance has changed from the 25th of the month to 5/12 (April benefit) and 6/9 (May benefit) to reduce delays. P-EBT benefits will be credited to SNAP recipients based on the schedule outlined above and may not be issued on the same day as traditional SNAP benefits.
Your P-EBT benefits will remain active on your card as long as you use some of them at least once every 9 months.

Thank you ky youth advocates.
We have qualified for reduced lunch for months but since we were not in school I did not apply for reduced lunch. If we apply for reduced lunch now will we still get the benefits for October and so forth
We will be following up via email to help address your questions.
It is our understanding that you can still fill out a free/reduced lunch application with your child’s school at any time and once a student is approved for free/reduced lunch they will be considered free/reduced for the entirety of the school year, including retroactively, so they will be eligible for all P-EBT benefits.
Have they approved Pebt for the summer months yet?

Anyone who has questions about April and May benefits, I called the posted number and they were very kind and helpful.
If you don’t have your student’s SSID number handy, for Fayette county you can get it from the Fayette Co. technology help desk at 859-381-4410. Other counties I would assume you can retrieve it in a similar way, or contact your school. They were also very kind and helpful.
Hope that helps!

I didn’t know I was suppose to receive a card in the mail in my child’s name until around the end of may a friend was saying she received more benefits on her daughters card and I asked her about it, so I called the hotline number and told them I haven’t received any benefits and never received a card in the mail in my child’s name and they said it shows one was mailed out and was activated and all the benefits had been used. They told me what I needed to do so I did do everything they said to do and they reissued me another card in my child’s name and when I called and activated it it said there was $0.04 on the card and there was suppose to be $600.00 and some on the card and I called the hotline back and they said they would check into it and see what was going on and for me to call back in 2 weeks. I called back in 2 weeks and same thing. I called back in another 2 weeks and same thing. So far I only received the last 2 payments and still never received the $600.00 and some that they said I was suppose to of gotten and my case isn’t a custody case either. Me and my husband both live at the same address. They haven’t helped at all with trying to give the pandemic EBT back that was lost on my child’s card.

Hello was wondering when the PEBT summer benefits will start for school aged kids
The Department for Community Based Services shared this week that the summer p-ebt plan has been approved and eligible children will receive $375 for the summer period. Benefits will be issued to existing P-EBT cards/EBT cards the week of August 23rd. Learn more in their Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/kydcbs/photos/a.390269998220627/930261207554834
So there only two more days in this week and still haven’t received any summer benefits
All children who received P-EBT during the 2020-2021 school year are eligible for Summer EBT. Benefits should have been loaded onto P-EBT cards or SNAP EBT cards, if you receive SNAP benefits, during the week of August 23rd.
If you need assistance, we suggest calling the DCBS call center at 855-306-8959. You will need to have the student’s full name, date of birth, and State Student ID (SSID) number when you call.

I lost my 2 children’s P-EBT cards and when I requested a new one, I received different cards in the mail (they have an American flag on them). They have no balance and look more like a SNAP card ( my kids don’t qualify for SNAP). Could I have been sent the wrong cards?

I received summer benefits today on both cards but only $125 a piece and I thought they would be getting $375 a piece where is the rest of it ?
DCBS shared that issuances for eligible children were sent in separate files – so as you check your cards, only one month of summer issuance ($125) was available at that time. The full amount of $375 should have been available by the end of the day on August 26th.

Never got the last go round for my oldest in high school but I did for my youngest in elementary school. I have called the hotline and spoken with like 6 different people and get the run around or a different answer each time. Didn’t get anything for him on this summer round either. Definitely frustrated. They both went hybrid and both were eligible for reduced lunch even though the entire district was free. They tried to say my oldest wasn’t.. but yet he had managed to get it the other times except for April/may and the summer. Reading other comments here tells me that something is messed up with their system.. but good luck trying to get an answer from them. I spent over a month trying.
I have gotten it twice an than this month nothing last month nothing my child is in public school received them just fine until recent an they just cut off hasn’t gotten them for past two months anyone know why ?
August was the last month that P-EBT benefits were distributed. The state is currently working to get a P-EBT plan for this school year approved, and we will provide an update as soon as that plan has been approved.
