February 26, 2021 update: find the latest P-EBT information in this post.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, food security continues to be a top priority for many Kentucky families. Last school year, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved Pandemic-EBT to allow families of Kentucky students to receive money for groceries to replace meals missed at school due to distance learning during the pandemic.
The USDA has now approved Kentucky to provide Pandemic-EBT to students for August and September 2020. This round of benefits will be available to any Kentucky student that receives free lunches at school through the National School Lunch Program. Eligible students will receive benefits for school days spent distance learning in August and September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students will receive $5.86 per eligible school day in August and September. The total amount received will vary for each family. Students who participated in virtual learning or a hybrid model during the months of August and September are eligible for this benefit. Students attending in-person classes or traditional home-school are not eligible.
Eligible students will automatically receive a new EBT card in the mail with their benefit amount and are expected to arrive in the month of October or November. Each eligible student in the household will receive a separate card. Families do not need to reapply for this round of benefits. Please make sure your child’s address is up-to-date with your child’s school.
Check out an FAQ document from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and visit the Pandemic-EBT webpage for additional details.

I have been trying for months to get my 4 kids cards. Dcbs has failed to update the address 5 times after calling them since October. I’m so fed up with the lack of information as no one has a direct number to get these cards sent out. They said school provided the address but that can’t be as we moved over a year ago and address was updated for the bus when we moved as well as when they were registered for school in Aug. Then dcbs says after 5 times address would be changed and yet again last week they said no one did it and cards aren’t sent out! If anyone knows who actually sends these I need to have a contact! My children need these.
Thank you for continuing to advocate for your family. We’ve shared your concerns with DCBS.

I’ve never received a p ebt card for my child. However, an extra amount has been added to my ebt card for the past few months. Will the extra amount be added to my ebt card again or will I receive a p ebt card in the mail. I’ve read the response that cards will be mailed, kids that qualify, October and November, etc. If I never received one to begin with, although an extra amount was added to my ebt card, should I have received one and will I receive one? Is it different than the extra amount added to my card? Like, do we qualify for both an added amount on the ebt card AND a p ebt card both?

Don’t feel bad! I got my daughters in the mail today and there’s only $29 on there. She was all virtual aug and sept so don’t know why and no one will help
According to a FAQ document from CHFS, the rate per student is $5.86/day. P-EBT benefit amounts will vary and are specific to each student. The maximum rates provided in Kentucky will be used including the severe need breakfast and lunch rates. Weekends and holidays are not included. https://chfs.ky.gov/agencies/dcbs/Documents/pebtfaq.pdf. We suggest contacting the Family Support Call Service lines at (855) 306-8959, if you have further questions.
Asley, I also live in Laurel and cannot get anywhere with the people I talk to by phone. I’ve also told them numerous times that the PEBT email is invalid. SLHS is telling me that my son’s information was sent (and we confirmed their information was correct too) and they don’t know what’s going on. I wonder how many other London/Laurel families are going to be turned-away? This is beyond frustrating!
It is October 30 and still no p-ebt benefits no updated on status of them or anything are they still sending them.

I just want to say thank you for the pebt you guys don’t know how much this helps when you don’t qualify for the snap program.
I called the SNAP office over these benefits because they were having an issue for a little while about incorrect information that has since been fixed. The gentleman told me that in Kentucky, the cards were not being sent out until November & that you had to wait until November 27th before you could call and report a card as not recieved. They won’t do anything if you call before then except tell you to wait.
If you haven’t received a new card who do you contact?

Please read my entry just submitted. I’ve already went to my son’s high school and physically met with the woman who manages food services. She confirmed their having my son’s information correct and is just as confused as I am as to why he didn’t receive the first distribution that was supposed to be automatically deposited to our EBT card and doesn’t know why he STILL isn’t in their system for the current distribution and mailing of a separate card. This makes no sense whatsoever. My son has been HCI status since March 10th, he has been in the same district since 2016, we’ve been recipients of Medicaid, EBT, and Children’s Commission (him) since 2016. When going to school he has an IEP and a one-on-one paraprofessional. He most definitely exists and most definitely deserves this food benefits. The food service manager says there’s nothing the school can do. PEBT/cabinet cannot do anything because it’s a federal grant. Yet my son is the one that goes without?!
Should we wait until the end of November to call or do you recommend we call now?
The KY Cabinet for Health and Family Services has shared that qualified students will automatically receive a new EBT card in the mail with their benefit amount – cards are expected to arrive in November.
Has anyone received the card yet?

Someone at the state level needs to correct the PEBT.info@ky.gov email problem or stop giving it out as a way to contact the Commonwealth. It’s beyond frustrating! I contacted PEBT representatives four times through the summer and four times since the first week of October. They have confirmed that my son never received nor had the first PEBT funds deposited to our EBT card last spring and he doesn’t show up in their system to be a recipient for Oct/Nov mailed cards. I cannot comprehend fact that NO ONE can help or correct the situation and that I am continuously told to just be patient and his information should be transmitted any day now. I was told to be patient all through summer and am now told “Sorry. Those funds are no longer available but he’ll get a separate card for this distribution” and, “well, I can’t see him in my listing now but call again next week.” What am I supposed to do at this point? The email PEBT.Info@ky.gov BOUNCES ALL MESSAGES stating the address is unknown. I’ve tried from different houses, different devices, and I’ve even had my ex-husband and adult son try to send email from their (two) homes in Detroit. It is not a working email.
Thank you for advocating for yourself and your son. We suggest contacting the state’s Family Support Call Service lines at (855) 306-8959. We will also share your concerns with the KY Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
I still haven’t received the second round. The first time I had to call, and email, and was told the my card had been received and activated, so I called usps and then a few days later was told that my card was not received or activated and there was an error. Is this going to be a problem this time as well?

I have been calling non stop to see where my childs card is. They keep telling me its coming, I talked to one person a couple weeks ago she told me she couldn;t see information on it. i called a day later and another lady gave me every single information on the card. She told me if i didnt get it by the 1st to call and i will get another one. I call back today and someone tells me it was sent out on 09/29. i mean really? i dont understand why this could not just be loaded on to the old cards. it would of been so much easier!!! now i have to call another number to try to get a new card issued out..which i guess i will get next year?
Thanks for advocating for your family. We have shared your concerns with CHFS.

The second round of P-EBT covered school days spent learning from home in August and September 2020, which varied for each student depending on their school’s schedule. We have shared your question with DCBS, too.
Honestly, I’ve bookmarked this blog having crucial information. I might admire your work done in this blog post/article. I am happy to read. Please keep posting more and more. Thanks once again for posting.
Well here it is the middle of December still no pebt the us government and all of its counter parts are full of shit they promise one thing but always deliver nothing whats the point of making a statement saying cards will be mailed out by the end of November called the 1855-306-8959 number nobody knows anything thanks. but if we owed the government anything they would make sure they get it without a moments hesitation.

Now that the state has been approved for the P-EBT from year end until May 2021, how long will it take the state to begin issuing benefits?? Will it go on the most current ebt card or will new cards have to be issued?
Please find the latest P-EBT updates in this post: https://kyyouth.org/new-p-ebt-benefits-are-coming/
Why have I not received my benefits yet
We suggest calling the Cabinet for Health and Family Services at (855) 306-8959. You will need to have the student’s full name, date of birth, and State Student ID (SSID) number when you call.
How will it work for the kids that are still learning virtually, will they continue to receive benefits. Or will all kids lose the benefits,, even if they did not go back into the classroom?
To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a public or private Kentucky school using a virtual or hybrid learning model and meet one of the following requirements:
– Students who are current SNAP recipients
– Students who attend a Community Eligibility Program (CEP) school
– Students who receive free or reduced lunch at school
– Students attending a Head Start program that is on a virtual or hybrid learning model and that participates in the National School Lunch Program
Families that are in a hybrid district but their child’s individual learning model differs from the district’s model can submit a claim for reconsideration to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services by calling (855) 306-8959.
Whats the date cards will be reloaded?

My kids got the first pebt, but not the extension. I know they qualify at least for reduced lunch and 2 of my 3 school aged kids are in online school only.
We suggest calling the CHFS toll free line at (855) 306-8959 and select Healthcare and Food Benefits option for further assistance.
