A trip to the Kentucky Science Center with children is like leveling up on curiosity and innovation. My nephews’ favorite part is usually the water table. It’s fascinating to watch how they look at the pipes and water spouts, devise a plan in their brain, then start working to implement what they want to have happen. The joy on their faces is priceless when they figure out their goal – like how to get enough water pressure to pop the ball up into the air and into the water container.
With updates to the Opioid Data Dashboard on Children and Families, we hope to spark your curiosity and innovation when it comes to actions to help our Commonwealth recover from the opioid epidemic.
When we work together, we can help children and families heal from the impacts of addiction and stop future generations from using substances before they start.
The latest updates to the dashboard include:
- An introduction video to explain what you’ll find on the dashboard;
- A video about how counties are using local opioid settlement funds from our partner at the Kentucky Association of Counties;
- Information on each page that explains how the data is connected to opioid use impacts or prevention; and
- A new layout to make navigating the dashboard easier.
Right now, the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission has a funding opportunity open to support work on Prevention. One of the priority areas identified for funding decisions is programming that increases access to Positive Child Experiences (PCEs) and reduces Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
On the dashboard, you can now find a description of how PCEs factor into preventing substance use disorder, and how ACEs increase that risk. Additionally, you will find regional data on PCEs and county-level data on many ACEs. We hope the insight, data, and action ideas spark ideas for how your community can create a brighter future and help our families heal.
