Support Early Literacy Education

Summary

HB 226 would would specify the Department of Education’s role in assisting local school districts with regard to reading instruction, supports, and interventions; require a local board of education to adopt and implement a reading universal screener and reading diagnostic assessment; permit a local school district to adopt a common comprehensive reading program for K-3; and more related to improving students’ literacy outcomes.

HB 226 is co-sponsored by Representative James Tipton and Representative Tina Bojanowski. It is has passed the Kentucky House and awaits a hearing in the Senate Education Committee.
