KDAlogoThe Kentucky Oral Health Coalition (KOHC) was recently featured in the July/August 2014 issue of Kentucky Dental Association’s (KDA) magazine, KDA Today.  The article, written by KOHC’s own Lacey McNary, focused on the increasing awareness of Kentucky’s oral health needs and the growing energy of stakeholders across the Commonwealth. Governor Steve Beshear’s KyHealthNow goals for improving oral health for Kentuckians and the priorities of KDA and KOHC align—specifically improving oral health awareness, expanding school-based oral health services, and increasing access to services. This featured article highlighted collaboration among KOHC members and other stakeholders and challenged readers to address areas of need in the oral health frontier in Kentucky.

KOHC has a strong theory of change that revolves around the power of networks and collaboration. We are proud to partner with KDA to address issues including, but not limited to:

  • Revisiting kindergarten oral health screeningKDATODAY
  • Instituting a regularly updated oral health surveillance system
  • Adoption of a state oral health plan
  • Increasing the number of dentists who serve low income Kentuckians
  • Improving oral health literacy among Kentuckians

These goals are bold, but KOHC believes the synergy of collaboration can improve the oral health of Kentuckians, especially the youngest members of our community. KOHC expresses a deep gratitude towards KDA for the inclusion of KOHC’s various infographics, pictures, and new member calls to action.
