Statement by Terry Brooks, executive director of Kentucky Youth Advocates

HB 180, sponsored by Chair of the House Health and Family Services Committee Representative Addia Wuchner, has had its final vote and is now headed to the Governor’s desk. The Senate unanimously passed the bill, which would allow close family friends to serve as kinship caregivers. Close family friends can provide a vital safety net when a child must be removed from their home by placing that child with an adult they trust.

We thank Representative Wuchner for sponsoring HB 180, and we thank the First Lady’s Office and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services for championing this bill and prioritizing the needs of our most vulnerable kids. This is a key win for kids in the 2017 Kentucky General Assembly.
