spread the wordOver the last few weeks, our Executive Director Terry Brooks wrote a series of blogs on lessons learned from a recent graduation he attended for youth in the foster care system. In one of his posts, he discussed that youth in foster care need to be connected to supports they are eligible for once they leave the foster care system.

Due to a new policy, foster children who were in care at age 18 will now qualify for continuous Medicaid coverage until age 26, regardless of income or the state in which the individual was in foster care. This mirrors the provision that young adults can stay on their parents’ private insurance until age 26.

Do you or does someone you know interact with this population? If so, please help spread the word about this new benefit. Former foster care youth can apply for coverage at any time by visiting https://kyenroll.ky.gov. Read the recent Cabinet for Health and Family Services announcement about this here.
