family_croppedNext month is Child Abuse Prevention month and we know that every kid, especially those who’ve experienced abuse or neglect, needs a safe and loving family and place to call home. Foster families play an important role in the continuum of care of children involved in the child welfare system. Foster parents can help keep children safe and provide a family type environment for kids who are unable to stay with their own families.

There are several types of resources available to foster parents within the state of Kentucky. For example, the Kentucky Foster & Adoptive Parent Training Support Network includes seasoned foster and adoptive parents who provide training and support to newer foster parents and those waiting to be approved by the state. Contacts representing 15 regions across Kentucky can be found here.

Also, the Commission’s Foster Care Support Program offers medically related supports and services for foster families facing special medical needs. For information on eligibility and services offered, click here.

Check out the Cabinet for Health and Family Services for more information on foster care or becoming a foster family.
