The bill to reform juvenile justice in Kentucky, SB 200, passed the Senate last week and is being considered in the House this week. It would allow Kentucky to use taxpayer dollars more wisely to produce better outcomes for children, families, and communities. The bill is grounded in the work of the Kentucky Unified Juvenile Justice Taskforce, co-chaired by Senator Whitney Westerfield and Representative John Tilley. The Taskforce found that Kentucky spends too many dollars putting kids behind bars when they could better be served in the community. Kentucky can do better for children in a more cost effective way. SB 200 will ensure responsible spending, protect public safety, and put more children on the right track.
