Guest Post by Blake Jones, PhD

Anne Frank once said, “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”  Members of the Southern Bluegrass Citizen Review Panels (CRP) have taken that to heart.  The CRP is a group of citizen volunteers in the Southern Bluegrass Region who are federally mandated to conduct a yearly evaluation of the Department for Community Based Services.

However, in addition to the evaluation work that they are doing this year, the Panel also decided to help refurbish the four visitation room at the DCBS offices in Lexington.  The members pitched in and cleaned all of the furniture and toys, vacuumed, and even used their own money to rent a U-Haul and bring new furniture to the rooms! Commissioner Teresa James praised the group for their willingness to give of their time and money for such a worthy project.  The families and children of Lexington will have a cleaner, neater visiting area because of the kindness of strangers.

See photos of the group at work here.
