Children's Advocacy Day at the Capitol
Kentucky continues to rank in the bottom ten among states for child well-being. Children’s Advocacy Day at the Capitol began in 2004 as an effort to unite advocates from across the state to raise their voices on behalf of children’s safety, health, education and economic well-being. Hundreds of advocates from over 50 counties now gather at the Capitol in Frankfort every year to ask legislators to invest in kids!
The 8th Annual Children's Advocacy Day at the Capitol
More than 1,000 child advocates gathered in the Capitol Rotunda on February 16, 2012 for Children's Advocacy Day at the Capitol. Elected officials, social workers, teachers, judges, doctors, public health experts, therapists, members of the military, seniors, and kids came together to rally on children’s issues and talk to legislators about the Blueprint for Kentucky's Children agenda.
If you were not able to attend Children's Day, but would still like to make a difference for kids during this legislative session, you can:
- Make an appointment to visit with your legislators. Please do not wait until the day you arrive to try to get an appointment. You may want to become familiar with your legislator’s picture so you can pick them out. Check Project Vote Smart or the Legislative Research Commission website to learn who represents you. Call 502-564-8100 to schedule an appointment.
- Hand deliver or mail Step Up for Kids Notes (pdf) to your legislators, asking them to support the Blueprint for Kentucky's Children agenda. They are available online, here. Simply print, cut, and deliver.
- Check out the Blueprint for Kentucky's Children webpage to learn more about the issues facing Kentucky's children during the 2012 legislative session.
Join us for the 9th Annual Children's Advocacy Day in February 2013!
